Seminar Schedule:
July 12th (Saturday)
9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with lunch break, lunch will NOT be provided)
July 13th (Sunday)
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Seminar Format:
This isn’t like any seminar you’ve been to before. We pride ourselves on utilizing the feedback we’ve received in the past on what makes a “good” seminar and worth your time and travel to attend. We work directly with Murayama Sensei to identify specific topics and issues we’d like her unique perspective on and how to best use the time we have together. We try to focus on things you won’t see or do at home.
For example – we have keiko – everyday and the opportunity to practice with Murayama Sensei, but we don’t want ladies standing in line, 13 deep, for 45mins for a “chance.” That’s not a good use of time; we will have a list; that is based on where you’re from and days you’ll be with us. For example, if you travel in from Atlanta and can only be there on Saturday, we’ll slot you on Saturday. If you’re there both Saturday and Sunday, you’ll go one of those days. We ask the PNKF ladies that are going to be attending during the week, like on Monday and Wednesdays – to wait until then and give our out-of-town guests priority. The biggest piece of feedback we received is that our attendees of course want to practice with sensei (and watch!) but they also really enjoyed getting to practice with women they rarely get to, so we will create time and space for that, an hour or more both on Saturday and Sunday.
We also utilize a timer, to help sensei know where we’re at, so she can be at her best too. We’ll give longer times to higher dans and she has the option to extend or stop at any time.
We don’t expect everyone to be able to do everything, all day. We construct groups (not pairs) and by rank/skill to be able to allow flexibility as needed for the drills and waza practice.
The most important piece of feedback we’ve received is the feeling in the gym. Our attendees really value the atmosphere and ability to ask questions, make new friends and have fun.
As such – we do not allow spectators or men to attend or participate in the seminar. We do have some male assistance and a photographer, but that’s it.
